Inflow through Manhole Covers Can Be A Problem
Syracuse Castings’ Flow-Seal Manhole Covers significantly
reduce surface water inflow.
Many manhole covers in service today allow large volumes
of unwanted storm water to flow into the sanitary system.
As evidenced in the illustrations, storm water can and does
penetrate at the cover’s pickholes, vent holes, and at the bearing
seat of the frame. This water can not be separated and must be
treated at the sewage treatment plant. This becomes a very costly
process.
Tests conducted at our foundry prove conclusively that
Flow-Seal covers substantially reduce the inflow of water as
compared to covers of standard design.
Flow-Seal covers have two basic features
- Non-penetrating pickholes
- A 1/4-inch round neoprene gasket fitted into a machined
groove on the underside of the manhole cover.
